Kurwaldbahn Railway

One of the steepest cable cars in the world

Above the roofs of Bad Ems

With a 78 percent gradient, the Kurwaldbahn is one of the steepest funicular railways in the world. Already the ascent reveals new insights and views with every meter. Over a distance of 220 metres in length and 132 metres in altitude, the cable car connects the Kurviertel with the Bismarckhöhe in a shuttle service. It could hardly be faster and more environmentally friendly. When you arrive at the top station, you have a great view of the spa town, Lahn valley and Taunus. It's a good thing that an excursion restaurant with a panoramic terrace invites you to linger. The top station is also the starting point for a number of hiking trails and the Nordic Walking course.
