Peregrini e.V. presents......
4:00 PM: “Book Conversations” for “Teatime” The newly added “Days of Manuscripts” for 2024 will start with a teatime – also gladly with coffee – accompanied by cakes and pastries, of course. Afterwards, guests have the opportunity to browse through the available specialist books and engage in conversation with others about the magic of ancient manuscripts. Those who are completely new to the world of historical manuscripts will find guidance and assistance from the experienced “old hands” present.
7:00 PM: “The Bestiary of Oxford – An Animal Delight” – A Picture Lecture by Oliver Teufer, M.A. Music Accompaniment: The Hunting Horn Players of Rhein-Lahn
After Oliver Teufer presented the bestiary of Peterborough with its original (fable) animal depictions last year, he will introduce a “sister manuscript” that evening, the famous bestiary from Oxford with its over 130 golden miniatures of wild animals and fantastic mythical creatures. This codex is also based on the Physiologus from late antiquity. Despite its bubbling imagination, this manuscript from the late 12th century is characterized by calm symmetries and fine ornamentation, often featuring lovingly patterned backgrounds.
