GEGEN DEN STROM: UNAVANTALUNA

A top ensemble with musicians from the five Sicilian provinces! 

The fascinating program with singing and the typically Sicilian instruments Friscaletto (pastoral flute), Zampogna (bagpipe), jaw harp, tambourine, as well as the Cretan lute (a kind of oud) reveals the diverse Mediterranean traditions of Sicily. Tarantellas, contra dances, songs of workers, sailors, and lovers stand side by side with traditional cunti and recitativi, original compositions – all in authentic arrangements that still captivate today. 

UNAVANTALUNA was founded in 2004 by four fabulous musicians who had previously gathered very different musical experiences. They all immediately felt united by their love for the traditions of their country and decided from that moment on to put all their passion into a new project: UNAVANTALUNA was born!  Since then, they have continuously performed at the most important European festivals and concert series, and have been invited for interviews and performances on national and international radio and television stations. Tours have also taken them to Australia and Taipei in China, as well as to some of the most renowned festivals in Germany.
