Poems about life and death – profound, sad, and smiling
Under the heading “Not Silencing Death,” poems about life and dying will be presented in the Protestant St. Kastor Church in Dausenau on Friday, September 18 at 5.30 p.m.
They come from the pen of retired pastor Wolfhard Düver. “Einsachtzig unter oben” is the title of his book from which the theologian will read.
“Death – despite being brought into our lives and homes by the media thousands of times every day, this last great secret of humanity is mostly silenced in personal and public spheres,” the author states. The retiree living near Gießen has not been satisfied with this all-too-common ostrich attitude. His volume testifies in numerous compelling ways. In poems and ballads, with aphorisms and haikus, with sentence acrobatics and wordplay, he attempts to “dance around death deeply and sadly, angrily and with a smile on the scythe.” Tears of laughter are certainly welcome, without neglecting comforting and encouraging themes.
