ARNSTEINER EVENING "Marc Chagall – Windows to the Bible"
A picture presentation by Heiner Eberhardt with a small Bible exhibition Music: André Birnbaum
Marc Chagall (1887-1985) is regarded as one of the most significant painters of the 20th century. Born in the Russian Empire, he lived in his adopted home of France from 1922 until his death. He is known for his flower paintings, circus scenes, lovers, and images of Russia, Paris, and southern France. Socialized in Judaism, he dedicated one-third of his entire work to biblical figures and stories.
Right at our doorstep, in St. Stephan in Mainz, is the largest stained glass work created by Chagall: 170 sqm of colorful church windows.
In an entertaining lecture, Heiner Eberhardt (Obernhof) provides insight into Chagall's life and work, opening "windows to the Bible" through several examples.
