The open mining museum for International Museum Day
The Idea:
With International Museum Day, museums worldwide draw attention to their societal role. As an important means of cultural exchange, they not only take responsibility for our cultural assets but also promote understanding, tolerance, and diversity worldwide. With their innovative educational programs and diverse collections, they are unique places of learning that provide space for societal discourse and open up future perspectives.
The Working Group on Railways and Mining (AGBB) e.V. Bad Ems invites all interested parties to the Mining Museum Bad Ems on May 17, 2026.
From 1 PM to 4 PM, there will be an opportunity to get information about the status of the construction work for the "new" Emser Mining Museum.
You can take a look at the volunteer-run Emser Mining Archive and its holdings, accompanied by knowledgeable guides, as well as a PowerPoint presentation on the mining history of Bad Ems.
Furthermore, on this day an electric mine locomotive will be demonstrated on the museum's railway facility.
