Alchemy is our theme of the year in the Artist Residency Schloss Balmoral this year. It refers to that art and precursor of science, which was long understood as the pursuit of transformation through mastery: as the conversion of base matter into gold, as perfection through refinement. However, behind the exhibition
“Remnants of Alchemy”, curated by South African fellow Kamogelo Walaza, lies a different story. This exhibition is not about completion, not about the finished object, but about the material traces. The group show is dedicated to the fragments, remnants, tools, experiments, and discarded ideas that accumulate in artistic practice.

Featuring works by Chaveli Sifre, Jakob Forster, Jaleh Tannaz Tavassoli, Kitso Lynn Lelliott, Nazanin Hafez, and Simon Shim-Sutcliffe.
