Circular Route Hohlenfelsbachtal
Invitation to a hike on Sunday, February 8, 2026
Circular route Hohlenfelsbachtal in the district of Mudershausen (Aar), incorporating the Taunushöhe Ergenstein (Einrich) and the nature experience trail Hahnstätten
The hike starts at the old narrow-gauge railway bridge near the former manor Hohlenfels.
The circular route leads through the Hohlenfelsbachtal up to the Taunus elevation Ergenstein 419.7 m above sea level, returning via the donkey path to the rock castle Hohlenfels, downstream along the Hohlenfelsbach, continuing on the nature experience trail until reaching the outskirts of the municipality Hahnstätten, up the Heideberg and back to the starting point.
The distance is 13 km long and involves 380 meters of elevation gain and loss (moderate difficulty). The hike will proceed at a moderate pace of about 4 km/h.
Participation is at one's own risk. Sturdy footwear and packed lunch are mandatory, poles are helpful.
Meeting point and departure is at 10:30 AM at the West train station in Bad Ems (formation of carpooling) or at 11:15 AM at the Kleinbahn bridge Domäne Hohlenfels OT Mudershausen, turning off from the B274 between Katzenelnbogen and Zollhaus.
A final break is planned at the restaurant Schöne Aussicht in Katzenelnbogen. The return to Bad Ems is scheduled for around 6:30 PM.
