Geisig Circular Path
On the edge of the blue countryside following in the footsteps of the Romans
The hike leads above the Geisig cemetery towards Dessighofen, where the streams Hornbach and Kehlenbach converge and flows into the Limes hiking trail. Even today, the boundary ditches with their wooden palisades are recognizable, and a beautiful wooden sculpture in the form of a life-sized wax soldier can be admired. A detour to Dornholzhausen also offers the opportunity to visit the unique Luther Oak.
The Limes trail continues across open fields and through wooded areas towards the Mühlbachtal. Along the Mühlbach, stunning impressions await; the Neu-, Augustiner-, and Rauschenmühle are idyllically situated in the valley. At the picturesque rest area "Grubenhäuschen" and at the entrance to the former tunnel, interesting insights into mining in the Mühlbachtal can be gained. Following the markers of the Roman helmet, the path leads to the Roman spring near Marienfels. Continuing along a section of the old narrow-gauge railway track to the small community of Ehr. After a total of 15 km and an ascent and descent of 330 m, the loop ends back in Geisig. To conclude the hike, a visit to an agricultural operation with a joint final rest is planned.
The route has a moderate level of difficulty. Sturdy footwear and personal snacks are mandatory; hiking poles can be helpful.
Meeting point is either at 10:00 a.m. at the West Ernst-Born-Strasse train station in Bad Ems (to form car pools) or at 10:30 a.m. at the P cemetery Sonnenweg in 56357 Geisig. Guests are warmly welcomed.
