Leica Fotopoint Bad Ems

Short facts

  • Bad Ems
  • viewpoints/viewing platforms

The viewpoint on the Bäderlei offers a beautiful view of the Kaiserbad Bad Ems.

As early as the 19th century, during the Romantic era, the Bäderlei with its rocky landscape high above Bad Ems was a popular destination for excursions. It was here that Oscar Barnack tested a device that was to become one of the most innovative inventions of the last century. He was the inventor of the Leica 35mm 35mm camera and took two of the first test shots with the so-called "Ur-Leica" at the Bäderlei vantage point.

Thanks to the present-day Leica company, a photo point has been set up in Bad Ems on the Bäderlei to commemorate Oscar Barnack, the inventor of the Leica 35mm camera.
