Leica Fotopoint Bad Ems

Short facts

  • Bad Ems
  • Roman Limes,…

The vantage point on the Bäderlei offers a beautiful view of the UNESCO World Heritage town of Bad Ems.

Back in the 19th century, during the Romantic era, the Bäderlei with its rocky landscape high above Bad Ems was a popular excursion destination. It was here that Oscar Barnack tested a camera that was to become one of the most innovative inventions of the last century. He was the inventor of the Leica 35mm 35mm camera and took two of the first test shots with the so-called "Ur-Leica" at the Bäderlei viewpoint.

Thanks to today's Leica company, a photo point has been set up on the Bäderlei in Bad Ems to commemorate Oscar Barnack, the inventor of the Leica 35mm camera.
