Lahnwanderweg trail

Fantastic nature experiences on 19 stages

One of the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany

The Lahnwanderweg trail can do anything but boring. Cheerfully and light-heartedly it roams through the different landscapes of the Lahn Valley and links them with the lively places and their sights. On a total of 290 kilometres you can always discover something new, each of the 19 stages has its own charm. Start at the source in the Rothaargebirge mountains and let the enchanted atmosphere of the upper Lahn valley enchant you. The meadows in the middle Lahn Valley are lush green and open wide. In the lower Lahn Valley, the river has dug itself deep into the landscape. The last three stages between Balduinstein and Lahnstein are without doubt among the most beautiful. Experience the wildly romantic valley here and conquer the rugged Ruppertsklamm gorge or the via ferrata in Obernhof as a highlight. Bad Ems-Nassau is your ideal starting point and the Lahn Valley Railway takes you back to the starting point in comfort.

Excellent rail connection

The Lahnwanderweg is also an extremely comfortable route thanks to the great train connection with the Lahntalbahn. Nearly all the towns along the way have a railway station.

Balduinstein to Obernhof, 19.3 km (stage 17)

Forest and wine, sporty ascents and descents, wonderful views such as Goethepunkt, Wolfslei or Gabelstein, lonely valley cuts, in Balduinstein and Laurenburg castles are enthroned high up on the hillside - hiker's heart, what more do you want? The stage is quite sporty, as there are some climbs waiting. So slow down and go slowly. Over rocks, partly secured by ropes, you climb along a ridge. A head for heights and surefootedness are necessary, but there is also an easy and climbing-free alternative

Obernhof to Bad Ems 19.4 km (stage 18)

Do you like culture as well as nature on your hike? Then you will love this stage. Whether it's Nassau Castle, the leaning tower, the winged altar from the 15th century or the second oldest half-timbered town hall in Germany - the day is actually much too short to visit everything. Beautiful places to stop in Nassau and Dausenau provide for your physical well-being. On the Hohe Lay, the Kuxlay or at the Concordia Tower "viewers" get their money's worth. A tour of the superlatives - it should be mentioned that about 720 metres of altitude difference are covered.

Bad Ems to Lahnstein, 16.4 km (stage 19)

The last stage of the Lahnwanderweg shows you once again all the variety that makes up the Lahnwanderweg: Idyllic riverside landscapes, magnificent mixed beech forests, glorious vantage points and the undisputed highlight, the Ruppertsklamm Gorge. And when you stand at the mouth of the Lahn into the Rhine, it is a very special moment.
