An evening for the 100th birthday of Hildegard Knef

with Meta Hüper, vocals, violin & singing saw
Jarkko Riihimaäki, piano & keyboard

„Knef reloaded“ - An evening for the 100th birthday of Hildegard Knef is more than a tribute to the great artist –
 it is a musical Gesamtkunstwerk.
Knef, as you know her. And yet completely new.

Meta
Hüper dedicates
this evening to the icon of German chanson without copying her.
Meta
 presents her own contemporary version
of the songs about Berlin and life
–
intensely, charmingly, and profoundly. The quintessential Berlin chanteuse gives
the pieces a new freshness and deliberately places the music in the context of the present without losing its timeless magic.
The great classics like “For me it should rain red roses” or “I need a change of scenery” resonate in a new light – sometimes chamber music intimate, sometimes full of energy. Charles
Aznavour’s
“La Boheme”
is performed on the singing saw, the famous
“Suitcase in Berlin”
becomes a pop anthem, and
“Illusions”
ends with a spectacular
violin solo. In addition, Meta Hüper shares insightful stories about life, the challenges, and the unwavering charisma of a woman who has written German music history.

Meta Hüper is a musical exceptional talent. When she steps onto the stage in her tuxedo trousers, suspenders, and hat, she immediately captivates the audience. The passionate musician presents a kind of “chanson without borders” with her deep voice and masterful violin interludes. The Berlin singer and violinist is no longer a secret recommendation. International tours have taken her to the world’s great stages, including performances with Till Brönner, Max Raabe, and as a member of the ensemble Salut Salon.

The historic Marble Hall of the Bad Ems State Theatre, with its unique acoustics and elegant architecture, provides the perfect setting for this evening and is also a new venue of the Middle Rhine Music Festival.
