KURbuchhandlung Meckel by Schofield

The couple Agnes and Edward Schofield saved the traditional Meckel library in March 2026 with a new concept before its closure. "Bad Ems without a library is not possible," thinks the Schofield family, and offers readers in the newly designed ambiance novels, nonfiction books, children's and young adult books, as well as titles about the region and its history.

The centerpiece of the bookstore at Römerstr. 59 are two special sections related to Bad Ems' history: "Those Who Went to Ems" and "Spa Shadows"
Under the former, works by authors who stayed in Bad Ems are gathered, including those by Dostoevsky and Gogol, but not only, as there are some more. In the second section, literature on the phenomenon of "Spa Shadows" can be found, which deals with romantic relationships or close friendships that were limited to the duration of the spa and left famous traces in literature.
