GEGEN DEN STROM: Frech, bissig, politisch

Short facts

Erich Kästner and the literature of the "Golden Twenties"

Erich Kästner (1899-1975) is one of the most widely read authors in the German language.

The focus of the evening is on his life and work, especially during the "Roaring Twenties" and at the beginning of the Thirties. Rather apolitical verses – cheeky, slightly frivolous, sometimes bitter, alternate with often very political texts – uncomfortable, socially critical, mostly left-leaning. They are always entertaining, full of biting humor, referred to by the poet as “therapy for the soul.”

We present Kästner's work in dialogue with texts by Kurt Tucholsky and Mascha Kalekó – the Roaring Twenties with pitfalls and snags.

The venue is accessible.

Admission is free; donations are welcome.
