At night in two Berlin artist apartments.
In one, the writer Emil Henneberger (Thomas Linke) struggles with time and his landlady in the 1920s, while in the other, singer Sissi Schmidt (Marianne Blum) and pianist Henriette “Henry” Bauch (Anna Maria Haas) practice for their lives in present-day Berlin. All three are to showcase a taste of their upcoming show at a legendary Berlin salon. Two parallel lives that first comment on each other in a sparkling game of illusions, then magically intertwine, revealing real abysses.
Dialogues where the sparks fly, fast-paced scene changes, cheeky mother wit, catchy songs: Erich Kästner, Kurt Tucholsky, Claire Waldoff, Billy Wilder – the great humorists unmistakably inspired this, and would have a blast at this turbulent theater delight that celebrates the golden 1920s while still being highly relevant.
