Lecture, Speaker: Achim H. Schmidt
The Association for History, Monument and Landscape Conservation e.V. Bad Ems invites you.
In summer 2025, conservation work began at Burg Stein in Nassau, which soon led to archaeological investigations by the GDKE Rhineland-Palatinate, Directorate of State Archaeology Koblenz. As early as 2021, the speaker, together with Kurt Frein (Mainz), published the results of a structural historical observation at Burg Stein in the renowned specialist journal “Burgen und Schlösser.” The insights gained at that time could be further consolidated by the results of the archaeological investigation in 2025. Immediately after the completion of this work, earthworks for the modernization of the castle Nassau above it followed. Surprising findings also emerged during the archaeological investigations conducted there, the analysis of which is still ongoing. For the speaker, this professional engagement with the two historically closely related castles was the trigger to also explore privately the history of castle construction in the lower Lahntal and neighboring regions, particularly in the Einrich, in greater depth. The main findings from this new examination are to be presented to the interested public in a richly illustrated lecture.
