Life at the Limes – The Roman Section in the Bad Ems City Museum
The UNESCO World Heritage Day has been taking place for 20 years now. Bad Ems is known to be part of two World Heritage Sites, the "Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes" and the "Great Spa Towns of Europe." The Limes has been a World Heritage Site since 2005.
From the very beginning, the Association for History, Monument and Landscape Preservation (VGDL) has supported its research and communication. In consultation with the World Heritage Coordination Office, the VGDL offers two free events for UNESCO World Heritage Day.
The museum will be open on World Heritage Day as usual from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
During this time, the volunteer members of the museum team will also be available for questions.
At 2:00 PM, they will offer a guided tour of the "Life at the Limes" department. Since its foundation in 1906, the museum has showcased finds from the region. It covers the watch service at the Limes as well as Roman cuisine. From writing styluses to folding knives, from richly decorated tableware to hand millstones, the finds provide insights into everyday Roman life at the Limes. A highlight is the finds from the fort bath.
Admission to the museum is free.
