Impressive view of Bad Ems and the Lahn valley from the refuge
The Mooshütte is located on the Bäderlei and combines a great panoramic view of Bad Ems with a lovely picnic area. The Westerwald begins to the north (right) of the Lahn and the Taunus to the south (left). The rocky ridge on which we are standing fascinated spa guests in the Romantic period. The Heinzelmann Caves just below here provided material for imaginative tales. As early as 1816, a rocky path was laid out for riding donkeys and the first moss hut was built here. Today's refuge dates from 1992 and travel guides such as the Baedecker from 1835 praised the trail.
