SWAN LAKE – A CLASSIC IN NEW NEARNESS
For years, Grand Classic Ballet has stood for grand classical ballet experiences on German stages. With its
traditional winter tours, the company regularly brings classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker
to the theaters of the republic – works that have for many become a fixed part of the pre-Christmas season and
have turned into cultural rituals.

With “Swan Lake — Beyond the Stage,” Grand Classic Ballet is now consciously taking a new direction. The
production was developed to make the famous classic also experienceable beyond the winter months and on smaller
stages – in a form that remains familiar while simultaneously opening up new perspectives.

At the center remains classical ballet and the well-known story of Odette and Odile. New is
the way of narration: more concentrated, immediate, and emotionally intensified. A live string quartet accompanies
the dancers directly on stage, giving the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky a special
presence. The chamber music sound brings out fine nuances and intensifies every movement, every
expression.

The production consciously focuses on clarity and focus. Instead of large effects, expression, tension, and
emotion are brought to the forefront. “Swan Lake — Beyond the Stage” is not a smaller version of the large
production, but a standalone artistic form that gains power through reduction.
With several hundred performances a year, Grand Classic Ballet is one of the most active ballet companies
in Germany.
