UNESCO World Heritage Day ...on visible and invisible traces of the Romans and Celts
Every year on the first Sunday in June is World Heritage Day. So what could be closer than offering a special event on this day in honor of our World Heritage "Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes"?
The Limes Fort Pohl and the Interest Community Limes Fort Holzhausen invite you to explore the Limes as part of the presentations showcasing the diversity of Roman life at the Limes Fort Pohl.
The goal is the Roman Fort Holzhausen as part of the UNESCO World Heritage: Boundary of the Roman Empire.
The small hike along the remnants of the Roman border leads to the Roman Fort below the Grauen Kopf. During the tour, participants will learn more about the builders and the expansion of this border fortification from the Limes Cicerone Rainer Rehse. The circular route includes a visit to a watchtower site off the forest path. The return route passes by a Celtic burial mound field.
Back at the parking lot, there will be an opportunity, depending on the weather, to deepen the auditory experience through models of a tower, a soldiers' barrack, and a soldiers' room as part of the bonus program.
Replicas, including a chainmail, helmet, sword, and dagger, provide insight into the armament and equipment of the Roman auxiliary troops at the Limes.
The tour is suitable for children from about 10 years old.
Sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and personal drinks are required.
Duration of the hike is about three hours (pure walking time 1.5 hours for approx. 6 km)
Meeting point is at 10 a.m. at the parking lot at the roundabout on Bäderstraße (B260) near Holzhausen a. d. H.
Cost contribution for the tour per adult is 5 euros.
