The exact age of the church in Dornholzhausen is difficult to determine. The core is thought to date back to the 13th century. The spire on the church tower dates back to 1777 and the painted pulpit is thought to date from around 1700. The organ dates from 1900, was originally located above the altar and was only moved to the entrance side during a renovation in 1953. The three bells rang for the first time on New Year's Eve 1908 for the church service.
An oak tree was planted on the church square, which served as a cemetery until 1853, in 1883 to mark the four hundredth anniversary of Luther's birth. This was felled in 2004 as it was diseased.
