At 11.00, 15.00 and 17.00 every day at the "Old Town Hall", the 312-kilogram chimes ring out.

There is a carillon (installed in 2006) on the outside wall of the "Old Town Hall". The carillon sounds daily at 11.00 am, 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm. It consists of 12 differently tuned bells, which can currently play a repertoire of 32 melodies, e.g. the national anthems of Germany, France and Great Britain, various holiday-related songs such as "Oh du Fröhliche" at Christmas and some folk songs. The song "Glück auf, der Steiger kommt" was included as a reminder of the hard lot of the fathers who worked as miners in Bad Ems. The entire carillon weighs 312 kilograms. The bells do not swing like church bells, they are each played individually by an electromagnet that moves a pin and is controlled by a keyboard. This technology allows up to 112 songs to be programmed or even newly composed.
