The gigantic oak tree on the banks of the Lahn at the entrance to the town is one of the oldest trees in Germany. It is said to be over 1100 years old and has a chest height of 8.10 m. Since the tree is hollow inside, it used to serve as a sleeping place for wandering people. Nowadays the openings are protected by metal grids. In the Middle Ages it is said to have been used as a court oak.
