The old oak is one of the oldest oaks in Germany and has been registered as a natural monument since 1987.
The age of the English oak cannot be precisely determined. In popular belief, however, it was referred to as a 1000-year-old oak around 100 years ago. The oak is estimated to be 700 - 800 years old. The trunk is hollow and has several large openings, which are closed with cast-iron grilles. The oak was last renovated in the 1990s. The last measurement was taken in 2014 and it has a chest height circumference of a proud 8.10 metres. It is said to have been used as a court oak in the Middle Ages.
