Upper Middle Rhine Valley

The epitome of Rhine Romanticism

Of castles and palaces, sagas & legends

Let yourself be impressed by one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Europe: the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, for centuries the epitome of Rhine romanticism. The enormous diversity and beauty of the Middle Rhine has also been recognised by UNESCO and the 65 km section between the old Roman city of Koblenz and the cities of Bingen and Rüdesheim has been included in the list of World Heritage Sites. The number of castles, palaces and fortresses is also quite extraordinary:  Approximately 40 such sites between Koblenz and Bingen bear witness to the strategic importance that the Rhine had in earlier centuries. In addition, the Rhine Valley is full of stories, myths and legends - above all the world-famous Loreley.
